Is Central America A Good Place For A Babymoon?

It really depends on you and your comfort/risk level. There are some world-class destinations in Costa Rica and Panama that I would definitely consider. Other countries, such as Guatemala, I would personally suggest visiting at a different stage in life. Guatemala presents challenges with the lack of medical facilities (depending on where you are), potential for the Zika virus, and also areas of problematic altitude, such as Lake Atitlán or Antigua. No matter where you opt to babymoon, check with your OBGYN before booking.

Are cruises good for a babymoon?

Cruises can be fun, entertaining, and relaxing, making them great destinations for expecting couples. However, keep in mind that most cruise lines prohibit pregnant women from coming aboard after the 24th week of pregnancy. This policy is due to limitations in medical care on board and at various ports of call.

What Is a babymoon?

A babymoon is a vacation taken by expecting couples, typically before the birth of their child, to relax and enjoy some quality time together.

When is the best time to take a babymoon?

The ideal time for a babymoon is during the second trimester, specifically between the 14th and 28th weeks of pregnancy. This timeframe is often chosen because it's when expectant mothers typically experience more comfort and fewer pregnancy-related discomforts. Traveling is recommended against from the 37th week of pregnancy forward, due to its proximity to the expected delivery date.

What sunscreen is safe during pregnancy?

When choosing sunscreen during pregnancy, opt for broad-spectrum products with an SPF of 30 or higher to protect against both UVA and UVB rays. Prefer mineral sunscreens containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, as they are hypoallergenic and remain on the skin’s surface instead of being absorbed. These are considered safer for pregnant women. Ensure the sunscreen is water-resistant, even if you don’t plan to swim. Avoid sunscreens combined with insect repellents, as they can reduce the effectiveness of the SPF. If unsure about any product, consult your doctor and always check the label for safety during pregnancy. Regular application is crucial, especially since pregnancy can increase skin sensitivity and the risk of hyperpigmentation.

Why can't you get a massage during the first trimester?

While the American Pregnancy Association notes that massage is permissible at any point during pregnancy, many prenatal massage therapists choose to start services in the second trimester. The first trimester is a critical time with a higher risk of miscarriage, and there is concern that the increased blood flow from a massage could pose risks. Additionally, there are specific pressure points in the body that may trigger contractions or potentially induce labor. Therefore, to ensure safety, many therapists require a doctor’s release before performing massages on women in their first trimester.
